Citizenship rules can change and small factual differences matter. Use the official links below before filing or making a legal decision.

01

Who normally takes the citizenship test?

Adult grant applicants who are 18 through 54 when they sign generally take the test. Applicants under 18 or 55 and older generally do not, although other requirements may still apply. IRCC can provide accommodations and may approve a waiver on compassionate grounds in qualifying cases.

02

Format, timing and attempts

The test has 20 multiple-choice or true-or-false questions and lasts 45 minutes. A score of at least 15 is required to pass. IRCC currently provides up to three attempts; a hearing with a citizenship official may follow if the online attempts are not passed.

Follow the instructions in your invitation because administration procedures can change.

03

What to study in Discover Canada

The official study guide covers citizenship rights and responsibilities, Indigenous peoples and Canadian history, government and elections, the justice system, symbols, regions, geography and the economy.

  • Know how federal elections and responsible government work.
  • Learn the provinces, territories, capitals and regions.
  • Connect major historical events with why they matter.
  • Review rights alongside citizenship responsibilities.
  • Use current officeholder information in your test invitation or official sources.

04

How CitizenReady’s Canada bank is built

CitizenReady uses 143 independently written facts grounded in Discover Canada. Twelve are presented as true-or-false items, while the rest use four-choice questions. We report each fact once and do not inflate the bank by counting reordered answers as new questions.

Mock mode samples 20 distinct facts, includes both published question formats, applies the 45-minute timer and uses the 15/20 pass mark. Topic drills and flashcards support slower review. French translations appear only where they have been editorially checked.

05

Before starting the official test

Use a quiet private space, follow identity and technical instructions, and do not receive help or consult study materials unless IRCC explicitly permits it. Technical or accessibility needs should be raised using the process in your invitation.

A CitizenReady score is not an official result or a guarantee. The invitation and IRCC pages control.
